Heart Centred Journalling

In part two of our Mind, Body, Soul, Movement series with Sam from The Wellbody, Sam guest blogs about her experience with journalling and a framework for you to get started. Read on and enjoy the video that Sam has very kindly created just for us. 

Journalling is something that I began doing around four years ago and if I'm honest I started because I noticed more and more people talking about it and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about so, I treated my self to a guided journal with prompts and thus began my journey of journalling. I think being new to journalling, the guided daily prompts really helped me to understand the need for certain questions at specific moments

Here we are four years later and I have been journalling almost twice daily, every day ever since. Now, don't get me wrong there have been times when I've forgotten or have been short on time so have let it slip. But boy do I notice if I leave it for more than 3 days at a time! Much like with Yoga and Meditation, when I don't journal for 3 days or more I start to become grouchy, defensive and reactive so, I know just how much I need it in my life to give me clarity, to help me manifest my day and to keep me pro-active.

I want to share the techniques that I've learnt and the questions I always come back to each day. I journal every morning after some kind of movement, be it Yoga, POP Pilates or a PIIT (Pilates Intense Interval Training) workout, which I then follow with Meditation. I do it like this because I feel that my mind is much clearer and so I'm able to consciously create the day that I want to experience. Then in the evening I take the time to reflect on my day with some self-enquiry questions that will help me to bring about a sense of closure

Each morning I ask myself the following key questions:

  1. What am I most thankful for today?

  2. What is the 1 thing I can do to show myself love today?

  3. What are my top 3 inspired actions today?

Every evening I ask myself the following key questions:

  1. What type of person do I aspire to be?

  2. What fears or self-limiting beliefs are holding me back?

  3. What was today's lesson? / What challenged me today that I can learn from?
