Why we think multi-tasking skincare and make up products are the best

At Blomma Beauty we're all about skinimalism; having a simple but effective skincare routine that prioritises quality over quantity and lets our natural beauty shine through. So it's no wonder that we think multi-tasking products are the best! Here we share with you, why multi-tasking skincare and make up should be your next beauty purchases and our favourite multi taskers.

But first...

What are multi-tasking beauty products?

It can be as old school as 2-in-1 conditioner, a tinted SPF, or a simple essence that can be used to tone, hydrate, exfoliate and as a base for your powder face masks. Multi-tasking beauty products are those that have multiple applications and benefits at different stages of our self care routines, can be used in more than one way or can help customise your regimen. If you're savvy with the ingredients you choose too, you can also tackle a variety of different skincare concerns with multi-tasking products and ingredients.

Are multi-tasking beauty products as effective?

We think so! Remember, the majority of the beauty industry is all about selling you products so of course there's a different product for every square inch of our skin that's a 'must-have'. As long as you check the ingredients are fit for purpose for your skin and what you want to achieve with the product and you shop somewhere that will give you honest, impartial advice, multi-tasking products can help support your skin barrier naturally and avoid overloading your skin, mixing too many different actives together and keeping things simple and affordable.

What are the benefits of using multi purpose skincare and make up products?

  1. Your routine is simplified. We all have busy lives and whilst a good old self care session where we spend a good chunk of time taking care of ourselves is lovely, it's not an everyday luxury for most of us. Having a simpler beauty routine can save us time.
  2. Your skin isn't overloaded. Sometimes using too many products can be a bad thing and our skin gets overloaded with creams, lotions and oils. Using fewer but more effective products ensures your skin is absorbing what it needs and isn't getting dull, oily or breaking out unneccesarily.
  3. You'll use less packaging. Using fewer products means less packaging to recycle or send to landfill and if you use up the products you do have before they expire (trickier to do the more products you use) there'll be less wasted product making its way into our land and waterways.
  4. You'll save money. Buying products that can fulfil multiple steps in your skincare or make up routine will cost you less overall.

Our favourite multi functional beauty products

Casa Mencarelli Acqua Di Miele Honey & Orange Toner

This toner is so much more than just a toner!  Packed with properties such as orange blossom water (a natural AHA that will gently cleanse and exfoliate, tighten and tone your skin while minimising pores and capillaries), a prebiotic that helps prevent spots and blemishes and a moisturising honey that leaves you with soft, smooth skin and minimal blemishes. You can use it as a toner post-cleanse, with the atomiser as a hydrating mist as well as blending it with the Casa Mencarelli Sicilia Green Clay & Lemon Mask & Scrub to create masks and a more granular exfoliant.

Silvan Skincare Radiance Balm

This is the holy grail of minimal beauty products in our opinion. Firstly, the product contains rich anti-ageing rosehip oil, everlasting flower oil to regenerate and revitalise the skin and camellia oil with powerful anti-oxidant and cleansing properties. The balm has a wide range of uses too. It can be used as a daily moisturiser after your cleansing routine, as a gentle mask and cleanser and it can also be applied as a highlighter or primer to prep the skin before makeup application.

Terre Verdi Organic Fairtrade Argan Oil

Argan oil is a staple product that is versatile, natural and organic and has many uses. It can be used as a moisturiser on the face and/or body, on the hair as nourishing and protective treatment or to tame dry, frizzy hair, as a makeup remover and even as a bath oil. There are many benefits of adding organic Argan oil into your regime including:-

  •         Taming and conditioning hair
  •         A reduction in the appearance of fine lines
  •         Repairing split ends and damaged hair
  •         Nourishment of skin and nails
  •         Help managing skin conditions such as dry skin, stretch marks, psoriasis and eczema

Terre Verdi's Organic Argan Oil is not only very affordable, organic and natural but it is also highly sustainable. Terre Verdi have Soil Association organic certification for their argan oil which ensures the Fair Trade minimum price is paid for the highest quality organic oil to support small-scale farmers and workers who are often most marginalised.

AD Skin Synergy Organic Rosehip Oil

AD Skin Synergy’s 100% certified Organic Rosehip Oil is ethically farmed from organic rosehip grown at the foothills of the Chilean Andes. An essential fatty acid, rosehip oil is great for promoting skin renewal, boosting skin elasticity and for its smoothing and firming abilities. Rosehip oil can be used directly on the skin (an ideal overnight treatment to restore and brighten the skin) and it can also be added to your body moisturisers and day creams and to boost hydration. Supercharging your organic moisturiser with a few drops of rosehip oil is particularly beneficial in the winter to help prevent moisture loss from the skin.

Lyonsleaf Zinc and Calendula Cream

The Lyonsleaf range has 3 multi-purpose balms but this one is our most popular. The healing, anti-inflammatory properties of zinc partnered with the soothing and hydrating effect of calendula helps a number of skin woes from cuts and scrapes, burns and blisters, to weepy eczema and even topical steroid withdrawal symptoms.

BareFaced Beauty Mineral Foundation

BareFaced Beauty's loose powder foundations can be applied in many different ways to create different levels of coverage on the skin. Use them as a concealer to target specific areas like dark circles, red patches and blemishes; as a light powder, a full coverage mineral foundation and, our favourite, mixed with your favourite moisturiser to create a tinted moisturiser. Mineral powders are also great at helping a number of skin conditions, including acne through its natural properties so you don't need to worry about clogging your skin with make up if you're breakout prone.

Odylique Cream Foundation SPF

It's essential to wear sunscreen to protect our skin and Odylique have developed a tinted mineral SPF so you can keep up your sun protection and still have a flawless make up look. The zinc oxide and karanja which provide SPF 25 protection are also ideal anti inflammatory and soothing ingredients for blemish prone skin so instead of covering up your pimples with make up, adding to the dirt and grime it's exposed to, Odylique's Cream Foundation is also helping to nip the spot in the bud.
